Objectives

International mobility is an important prerequisite for successful careers for women in research. Young female academics and scientists in particular are constantly faced with the challenge of finding suitable funding opportunities for academic stays abroad. In order to fill this gap, the University for Continuing Education Krems has committed itself to supporting mobility programmes for female scientists in the form of its own stipend.

Background

The University of Continuing Education Krems actively shapes society through the orientation of its research and university continuing education. In this context, the themes of system goal 8 of the GUEP (Social Responsibility of Universities: Gender Equity, Diversity and Social Inclusion, Responsible Science, Sustainability and Digital Transformation) were also anchored in the 2022-2027 Development Plan: the university develops the necessary measures and creates the framework conditions to promote social inclusion, gender equity and diversity. Specifically, the increased participation and inclusion of all employees in international activities is being pursued. The objective of internationalization activities in the context of the principles of diversity and inclusion is also stated in the key strategy “Focused expansion of international activities” as well as in the Erasmus Policy Statement and concerns expanded scholarship, nomination, monitoring and recognition procedures for mobile staff.

(Implemented) Activities

A call for applications has been published on the university's own call platform, which is accessible to all employees of the University for Continuing Education Krems, outlining the framework conditions and opportunities of the mobility scholarship for (junior) female scientists and establishing contact with the responsible mobility- and inclusion-coordinators. The scholarship is also presented in the Inclusive Mobility Kit video published on the university website.

Results

More inquiries and mobilities from female scientific staff regarding opportunities, recognition and funding for research stays abroad. The following concrete effects are expected for the staff concerned: internationality, inter-cultural competencies, networking, the recognition of stays abroad within the career trajectory at the University for Continuing Education Krems and thus better opportunities in an increasingly globalized world.
